Leather working on February 2nd, 2025
My friends and I joked long enough about getting into leather working until it became a reality. I think it'll be super exciting to learn more about the craft and see what it takes to make some basic leather goods.
My main motivation in taking these pictures is to document the early part of the process, but I also added some of that hazy effect because it reminds me of what my grandpa's garage looked like when I was a kid. Everything was a little mysterious/complicated to me and there's just something about how the light's captured here that gives me that same feeling.

Leather is definitely not a cheap hobby or necessarily one that's easy to break into; there are a lot of upfront costs in terms of materials and tooling. You'll also go through a lot of scraps just trying to get your first stitches done.

The more I'm learning (by osmosis) the more fascinated I am with how exact and precise everything has to be. It's given me a lot more appreciation for fine leather goods and how durable they are.
